If you plan to have a short wedding ceremony, setting up a lot of chairs for guests may seem like a waste of time and energy. But providing seating isn't a waste at all because you benefit as well as your guests. Here are a few reasons to bring out the chairs.

1. It's More Dramatic

The trip up the aisle is a staple for most weddings. It's a part of the ceremony that many people associate with the wedding and something they may have envisioned for years. The best way to create this dramatic, romantic moment is to have a neat row made from carefully-arranged chairs. Standing guests will result in a clumsy, messy aisle.

2. You Reserve VIP Space

If there is no rhyme or reason to where guests view the ceremony, you'll have a hard time ensuring the best views for your closest circle. You may be able to section off a VIP section, but it will be hard to maintain and keep comfortable. Clearly labeled, reserved seats make the job much smoother and simpler.

3. Not Everyone Can Stand

Some wedding experts consider it bad form to ask guests to stand. While standing is less comfortable for all, some guests will not be able to do so safely. At the very least, you'll need to provide safe, accessible seating for certain guests. But doing so only for a limited number could make things more awkward and draw attention to the lack of general seating.

4. People Can See Better

Seated guests have better chances of being able to see the ceremony clearly. This position is more egalitarian for shorter guests, children, and older ones. While some guests may still have blocked views, they can more easily readjust with everyone stationary. You'll have more complaints from disgruntled guests if they came all the way and didn't get to see anything.

5. They Aren't In Your Views

Assigned seating benefits the wedding couple by controlling where people are during key moments. If left to their own devices, you may end up with people standing, phones out, in all your ceremony pictures. Seated guests are less likely to block photographers' angles and end up crowding into your pictures of the big day.
