Adding a bouncy house rental to a child's birthday party, block party, or other holiday celebration provides a fun way to keep little ones busy. Setting up the house does take a bit of planning to help ensure safety and prevent possible damage to your landscaping. As you work with a party planner to find the right size and design for your bouncy house, consider the following tips to prepare your lawn for the big event.

Tackle Yard Maintenance

The day before your party, take some time to perform some simple yard maintenance. Trim the grass and rake up any leaves, sticks, pebbles, or other debris that might otherwise damage an inflatable structure. Keeping the grass blades short can help avoid potential damage during the time your bouncy house is set up and in use. You may also want to take this time to clear away any patio furniture or other outdoor gear that might be in the way of the bouncy house's designated space. Look at the branches of any nearby trees and determine whether a quick prune is in order. Low-hanging branches might get in the way of the bouncy house once it has reached its full height.

Lay Down Tarps

Adding tarps to the grass in your yard can help prevent damage caused by the bouncy house or castle. This extra layer of protection helps prevent grass from becoming torn out of the dirt, and it can also prevent small sticks or rocks from puncturing the bouncer. Consider light-colored tarps to reflect heat from the sun, as this will may guard against heat and sun damage. Consider purchasing enough tarps to extend beyond the dimensions of the bouncy house so little ones won't have to walk around on the bare grass and dirt in their socks.

Set Up A Shoe Rack

Little ones will not be able to wear their shoes inside of the bouncy house, so add a shoe rack to your yard for kids to keep their footwear organized. The rack doesn't need to be store-bought or overly fancy. A stack of milk crates can do the trick, or you can even stack small cardboard boxes on top of each other for this purpose. Adding a shoe organization system can prevent children from losing their shoes at your event, and it also keeps your yard neat and tidy.

Clear The Way For Power Outlets

Your bouncy house rental company will need to access an outdoor power outlet to complete the setup, so make sure the GFCI outlets on the exterior of your home are easy to access. This might mean moving patio furniture, trimming shrubs, or clearing away gardening equipment. It's also a good idea to measure the distance from the outlets to the area where the inflatable will be located. Your party planner can then share this information with the rental company to ensure the bouncy house can be easily plugged in and set up on the day of your party.
